WATCH: Alawieh recently announced his run for State Senate in Michigan’s 2nd District, promising to “fight for your family like it’s my own.”

Dearborn, MI (December 15, 2025) – The campaign of Abbas Alawieh for State Senate announced today that it has raised more than $100,000 within the first week of launch — a clear signal of the enthusiasm and momentum behind Alawieh’s bid for the newly drawn 2nd District seat, an open seat in 2026 that represents Dearborn, Dearborn Heights, Melvindale, Allen Park, and parts of Taylor and Detroit.

“I am heartened by the outpouring of support we received in just the first week,” said Alawieh. “Our message is resonating, and people are ready for a fighter who will deliver real investments in our kids, our elders, our workers, and every neighborhood we call home. This is the people’s State Senate seat, and together we’re building something bigger than any one of us.”

From organizing neighbors in Metro Detroit to shaping national policy in Washington, Alawieh has spent his career bridging grassroots power with institutional leadership to deliver change people can feel. His campaign is centered on investing in what matters most: strong public schools, safe and healthy neighborhoods, and an economy that works for working families.

“This campaign’s biggest strength is knowing where our power comes from,” Alawieh added. “This isn’t just about getting one person elected. We’re going to shift the landscape of power by engaging the Democratic electorate and expanding it, bringing in people long ignored or left out of decision-making in our state.

A product of Dearborn Public Schools and a two-time University of Michigan graduate, Alawieh is a public policy leader focused on fairness, transparency, and accountable government. He previously served as Chief of Staff to Rep. Cori Bush (D-MO) and as a legislative staffer to Reps. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) and Andy Levin (D-MI), where he helped orchestrate policy action that kept people housed during the pandemic, advanced bipartisan leadership to stop unjust deportations, and removed lead water distribution pipes

In 2024, Alawieh also served as a Democratic National Convention Delegate in 2024 after leading the pro-peace Uncommitted movement, helping reshape the national conversation on foreign policy.
