PRESS RELEASE

Abbas Alawieh’s Campaign Leads All Michigan Senate Candidate Committees in Fundraising from Individual Donors

Februrary 2, 2026

Capitol Hill veteran’s campaign committee posts nearly $140,000 in individual donor contributions, the strongest showing of any candidate committee across Michigan’s 38 Senate Districts

Dearborn, MI  — Abbas Alawieh announced today that his campaign has raised nearly $140,000 in individual contributions, the most of any State Senate candidate committee in Michigan during the reporting period that included October 21, 2025 to December 31, 2025—despite launching his campaign on December 3, 2025.

The powerhouse fundraising showing reflects Alawieh’s experience as a veteran political strategist and organizer.

I’m running not just to win, but to ensure that Senate District 2 wields maximum power and influence in Lansing in favor of the interests of working families. Since launching our people-powered campaign, I’ve spent my days crisscrossing the district and hearing voters share that they don’t just want elected officials whose policy stances they agree with — they want fighters who will stop at nothing to secure the resources our communities need,” Alawieh said.

Individual donors typically contribute to candidates by donating to their candidate committee. Alawieh’s committee raised $139,653.86, which leads all Michigan Senate candidate committees in the last filing period. This excludes contributions made by organizational Political Action Committees, or PACs, to candidate committees, which are not subject to the $2,450 limit for individual contributions. It also excludes large contributions by individual donors to candidate-affiliated PACs—groups that often spend in favor of a candidate but are not technically part of their campaign.

Alawieh developed a reputation as a legislative juggernaut on Capitol Hill, authoring dozens of bills and amendments that passed the U.S. House of Representatives in an era of deep political polarization while bringing grassroots energy into the legislative process. "As a former Capitol Hill Chief, my specific expertise is in delivering legislative and appropriations wins to the communities I work for. I’m eager to serve, and I’m excited that this strong start marks the beginning of a new day in politics for our District and our state. The message from our campaign today is clear: District 2 means business.

Alawieh, who was recently endorsed by Wayne County Executive Warren Evans, is hosting a community kickoff event at 5:30 PM on Thursday, February 12th to share his vision for building the district’s power and delivering resources where they’re needed most. The kickoff, which will be held at Byblos Banquet Center in Dearborn, will be an open press event. Members of the press are encouraged to RSVP here.

A product of Dearborn Public Schools and two-time University of Michigan graduate, Alawieh is a public policy leader who has spent his career fighting for policies that uplift working families and advance fairness, transparency, and accountability in government. He previously served as Chief of Staff to Rep. Cori Bush (D-MO) and as a senior legislative staffer to Reps. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) and Andy Levin (D-MI), where he helped orchestrate policy action that kept people housed during the pandemic, advanced bipartisan leadership to stop unjust deportations, and removed lead water distribution pipes. Alawieh also served as a Democratic National Convention Delegate in 2024 after leading the pro-peace Uncommitted movement, helping reshape the national conversation on foreign policy.
